  3. Getting Your Modem to Answer the Phone
  4.        If you are using a communications package like Telix, Procomm,
  5. etc., you can communicate with your modem from the blank terminal
  6. screen.  When this system hangs up, you should see NO CARRIER written
  7. on your screen.  DO NOTHING!  Wait for your phone to ring.  The word
  8. RING will appear on your screen.  Wait for your phone to ring at least
  9. twice.  Then type the UPPERCASE letters ATA and press enter once and only ONCE.
  10. Your modem will now answer the phone.
  11.     If your communications package does not permit direct contact
  12. with the modem, or if you see numbers on the screen rather than words,
  13. check the documentation for your software for the procedure to set
  14. your modem to auto-answer mode.

  16.     Do NOT use Host Mode!!

  18.         If your modem is not Hayes compatible but does autodial and
  19. autoanswer, check your modem's manual for instructions on making your
  20. modem answer the phone.  Your modem may have a manual switch to select
  21. between originate and answer, and might also offer a connect button.
  22.         If all else fails, leave a comment for the Sysop.
